Homebuyers 'increasingly concerned about energy efficiency'
27 Aug 2008
Those looking to purchase or rent property are becoming increasingly interested in the energy performance certificates in their Home Information Packs (Hips), it has been claimed.
Research from the Energy Saving Trust shows half of people believe their property would be easier to sell with green features.
The survey also found 53 per cent of the 2,090 of the householders questioned would be ready to pay an average of £3,350 more for a home which was found to be energy-efficient.
Philip Sellwood, chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust, said the phenomenon was partly due to financial concerns, rising fuel costs and the credit crunch.
He commented: "In the current economic climate, it makes sense to ensure that the running costs of the home you are living in or buying are as low as possible as well as helping to cut down on your carbon dioxide emissions."
Yesterday the National Association of Estate Agents said Hips should be slimmed down as they are often out-of-date by the time they are purchased.
