50% Britons want to flee permanently or to holiday home
Half of Britons would like to buy a house abroad either to move away permanently or as a holiday home.
The survey of over 2,000 people conducted by Foreign Currency Direct reveals the highest desire to flee the UK since the monthly poll started months ago.
A quarter of the respondents said they would look to buy overseas property to move away permanently, while 26 per cent said they wanted a holiday home so they could escape the upcoming cold.
In Spain, traditionally the most popular holiday and overseas home destination for Brits, people are looking for cheaper alternatives to the popular Costa del Sol, according to a property insider.
James Dearsley, European sales manager for Atlas International, said of the popular sunshine coast: "Historically it's known as the area to buy in, but now it's actually become too expensive for most people to buy in."
He added that the Costa Blanca or the Costa Almeria provide investors in overseas property with more for their money.
