6% of Brits 'willing to consider false home insurance claims'
Posted by Jonathan Walker
Landlord insurance property holders may be concerned about figures showing six per cent of Brits are willing to consider making a false claim on their home insurance.
This is in comparison to five per cent in August 2009, meaning around 500,000 more people are thinking about submitting a fraudulent claim, the moneysupermarket.com research showed.
Of the six per cent who would consider a false claim, almost one million said they would think about making a fraudulent claim or had done so already regardless of the credit crunch.
Close to 402,000 people with home insurance have defrauded their home insurer by successfully making a false claim.
"Insurance fraud is on the radar of the insurance industry - especially in a recession where people perhaps might be in more need of money," commented Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at the British Insurance Brokers Association.
He advised homeowners who are unhappy about their insurance deal to negotiate with their broker.
