Advice offered on rent protection insurance
A recent This is Money piece which focused on the necessity of rent protection insurance will have reassured many property owners, not just the landlord who wrote in with the query.
The landlord from Kent wrote in to the website after suffering a disappointing experience with a tenant who was unable to make rent and received advice from a number of experts.
Linda Mckay from the site as well as the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) offered their contributions the landlord. Ms Mckay said that rent insurance is often not as expensive as people think and added that it can be invaluable in the modern times of increased personal debt and rising rent.
The RLA said it was important to shop around prior to purchase, warning: "Some polices offer less protection than a dodgy umbrella. Most polices will cover the legal costs of recovering rent arrears and evicting non-paying tenants."
Other advice on offer was to take out tenant reference checks and doing as much homework as possible when it comes to the buy-to-let market.
