Ahipp creates Hips code of conduct
Consumers are being offered the security of a Home Information Pack (Hip) code of practice ahead of the mandatory rolling out of the packs in June.
The Association of Home Information Pack Providers' (Ahipp) claim that the move will entail that providers subscribing to the code will have to comply to stringent safety standards in the delivery of the packs.
Ahipp will urge consumers only to choose a pack from providers who display the code of conduct on their windows.
Stating that the government would already be helping to ensure that the delivery of Hips is to the highest possible standard, Mike Ockenden, director general of Ahipp, said: "The consumer will be able to place total confidence in any Hip purchased through providers adhering to the code."
The news follows criticism of the packs earlier this week by former president of the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) Trevor Kent.
In a speech to the NAEA, Mr Kent said that the packs had been "ill-conceived, ill-researched and ill-tesetd".
