Businesses count cost of tornado strikes
Businesses in Yorkshire have been hit hard by torrential flooding that has left many firms in disarray.
A large number of shop insurance and business insurance claims can be expected to be made over the coming days and weeks as firms in west and north Yorkshire attempt to recoup the losses suffered last week.
Around ten days' worth of rain fell in half an hour last Thursday while mini tornadoes were reported in Leeds and Harrogate, leaving many businesses in the tourist town badly damaged and under water.
Worryingly for firms throughout the UK, further storms could be on their way over the coming days, according to the Met Office.
The impact of Hurricane Gordon, which is moving towards the Azores, may be felt as far away as Britain, meaning commercial property insurance firms can expect more calls from companies in the near future.
Strong winds and heavy rains should be expected in the west and north of the British Isles by the second half of this week.
