Buy to let insurance: Glasgow launches accreditation scheme
Written by Dan Winters
Buy to let insurance holders are being encouraged to sign up to a new landlord accreditation scheme in Glasgow, which aims to improve standards in the private rented sector.
The project has been launched by Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Community and Safety Services, in partnership with Landlord Accreditation Scotland (LAS), and the 16,000 private residential buy to let owners in the city are being asked to volunteer for it.
Buy to let insurance holders need to adhere to "core standards" set out by Scottish authorities in order to gain accreditation and officials will carry out inspections on properties to ensure they meet criteria.
It is hoped that the scheme will help to reassure tenants that landlords are receiving regular training and guidance from LAS.
Other benefits for landlords include access to legal and rental sector information.
Recent figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders suggested that the landlord lending market stabilised in the second quarter of the year, as the decline in the number of loans available began to slow.
