Buy to let insurance policyholders 'opting for 3-bed homes'
Posted by Michael Brown
The majority of buy to let insurance policyholders prefer to purchase three-bedroom houses, according to new research.
Propertyearth.net found that 57 per cent of searches on the website were for three-bedroom houses, suggesting that buy to let insurance policyholders are moving away from the one-bedroom flat favoured previously.
The research showed that two-bedroom properties were the second most searched-for investments on the website, with four-bed homes in third.
"We are seeing the beginning of a new buy to let age, where landlords build portfolios made up of larger houses, rather than simply one bedroom flats," said Dominic Toller, managing director of PropertyEarth.net.
Landlords looking for a rental bargain were more likely to search with a large property with seven bedrooms, according to the website.
Jon Brown, partner relationship manager at iammoving.com, recently said that 2010 would be the year of the landlord as people continue to prefer to rent.
He said that a change in both financial and philosophical values would lead to a more general acceptance of the idea that a rented house can be a home.
