Carbon monoxide alarms vital to tenants and property owners, claims expert
The chairman of heating and plumbing firm 1st Action, Richard Clarke, has claimed that property owners should consider carbon monoxide alarms just as important as fire alarms.
While fire alarms are a legal obligation for property owners and landlords and are required for many commercial property insurance packages, carbon monoxide alarms are still not legally required by law.
That said, Mr Clarke believes that both are integral in any home, office or other building and believes property owners should ensure they include and service them regularly for tenants' safety.
Mr Clarke said: "They are not expensive, so it is not a matter of price. By its very nature, it is more important that you have a carbon monoxide alarm because you can't smell it and you don't know it is there."
The AA recently revealed under 45 per cent of homeowners say they have a carbon monoxide detector installed in their property, much less than the number who have a smoke alarm in their home (97 per cent).
