Expert: Check property insurance and costs
Written by Michael Brown
Businesses need to ensure that they have the right property insurance for their buildings and should aim to maximise their use of space, according to an expert.
Howard Cooke, a director in the corporate consulting team at GVA Grimley, says that firms need to consider the costs associated with their commercial space, such as rates.
He suggests that businesses check that they are paying the right fees and service charges.
Ms Cooke advises that firms should focus on big properties as that is where they are likely to be able to make large savings.
He says that they should be asking themselves, "What's my cost per square foot? How many people have I got in my building? Can I get more people in there? What's my limit?".
A survey by the Confederation of British Industry and GVA Grimley in May found that nine per cent of businesses increased the amount of property space they occupied in the previous six months.
