Free report to protect against fire
Southern Fire, one of the UK's leading fire protection companies, has issued a report for businesses on how they can prevent fire destroying property.
In the free fire protection report, the company outlines the responsibility that companies have in safeguarding property and people and how they can comply with the Fire Safety Order 2005.
This Order places specific requirements on business owners to protect people and property and the Southern Fire report highlights these.
"Fire Protection is a serious business. It is about protecting people and property. It is not about trying to save pennies," states Alan Price of Southern Fire.
The first part of the report looks at six actions that business owners must take in order to comply with the Act, with the second part describing three steps to installing the right type of alarm for a building.
The final part deals with how to tell whether an incident is a fire alarm or a false alarm and the issues surrounding the protection of possessions from the risk of fire.
In 2000, the government estimated that loss due to arson amassed over £2 billion and insurance companies reported that over 40 per cent of their losses were arson related.
