Greece overlooked by overseas buyers
British overseas property investors are neglecting Greece, despite the fact that t is an extremely popular holiday destination, according to an industry insider.
France and Spain are still the most popular places for Brits to spend in the overseas property market - with UK buyers spending a total of £20 billion abroad in 2006.
However, Les Calvert, director of worldwide real estate company Property Abroad, said that for second home owners or people looking to invest in tourism hot spots, Greece was an attractive proposition.
He said: "It has a beautiful countryside and a fascinating history and I think it has a long way to come as far as the overseas property market is concerned."
And there are a range of possibilities of places to buy from beachside resorts with thriving nightlife and constant flows of tourists, or secluded out of the way places.
He said people on the company website express an interest in the Greek islands, with Crete the most popular.
"The smaller islands are more for specialist kinds of people that have maybe been to Greece several times before and are looking for the peace, tranquillity and emptiness of the islands," he added.
