Homeworkers need adequate home insurance
As the country gears up for National Work from Home Day, one insurer has warned homeworkers that while the appeal is immense, they need to make sure that their insurance continues to cover their property and activities.
According to Cornhill Direct, 69 per cent of office workers would swap working in the office for working from home, though it warns that the switch is not as easy as simply setting up a desk and a dedicated phone line.
There could be implications for home insurance buildings and contents cover if the home is suddenly turned into a home office.
Mark Bishop, spokesman for Cornhill Direct, said: "Homeworkers do need to consider the insurance implications because equipment used for commercial purposes may not be adequately covered or covered at all by a standard home insurance policy, particularly if removed from the home."
He added that homeworkers who take objects out of the house on business could see their cover affected.
National Work From Home Day on Friday 18th of May is a WorkWise initiative aimed at helping businesses and employees make the most of their time.
