Hotel insurance customers 'should be wary of online reviews'
Written by Jonathan Walker
Hotel insurance customers are being warned that tourists are increasingly relying on customer review sites to inform their choices.
Amelie Hurst, spokesperson for TripAdvisor, claims that millions of people use this tactic to find out more about their destination before booking.
She says that travellers are increasingly returning from a stay at a hotel insurance customer's premises and sharing their experience online.
"It's the modern day equivalent of returning from a holiday and calling up your friends to tell them all about it," she states.
Ms Hurst highlights the benefits of companies using these review sites, as they enable people to find out what elements of their business need to be improved.
Recent research published by Thomson and First Choice found that four fifths of travellers trust the reviews they read online.
A total of 20 per cent say they are sceptical about these due to reasons including the fact those dissatisfied with a hotel insurance customer are more likely to review it online.
