'Improved properties more sellable'
Making improvements to a property is unlikely to raise its value but will make it more sellable, an expert claims.
Jane Walmsley, area sales director at Your Move, says it can help owners gain an advantage in an increasingly busy market.
She says there are currently "ten houses on the market where there may have been two last year".
People looking for somewhere to live will go for the property that is the best value in regard to what needs to be done with it, Ms Walmsey claims, and indicates a new bathroom or kitchen is bound to make it attractive.
"You would struggle to sell a property without them when you've got loads on the market and people are reducing to whatever they need to reduce to," she adds.
The latest Halifax House Price Index shows house prices fell by 2.4 per cent in May and were 3.8 per cent lower on an annual basis.
