Landlords and tenants urged over insurance
As the credit crunch tightens its grip, one service that landlords and tenants may be tempted to dispose with is insurance on rental properties, Home Move reports.
However, the independent home and property company states estate agents are urging people to make sure they are covered.
Speaking to Home Move, estate agent Philip Suter said there is a lot of misinformation regarding exactly what landlord and tenant rental insurance protects.
He stated many landlords do not realise they need contents insurance for unfurnished properties.
However, Mr Suter points out that without contents insurance carpets and curtains are not covered.
The expert added that many property owners mistakenly assume their landlord's policy will cover their belongings.
Mr Suter stressed the importance of making sure you are adequately insured.
This comes after research from Zurich revealed one in ten overseas property investors do not have home insurance, even though 52 per cent of those houses are left unoccupied for a month or more at a time.
