Landlords 'should do research before buying'
Written by Michael Brown
Landlords considering their next purchase should make sure they do their research before signing on the dotted line.
Ducalian, an independent property investment company, said people should fully research the financial side of the property before going ahead with it.
Timothy Lambert, head of consulting, suggested: "Use websites to see how much properties were bought and sold for, average values in particular roads and boroughs for example."
The expert also hinted that now may be the time to buy, as, while we are not at the bottom of the market yet, we are not far off it.
However, he predicted values will not rise fast and so people investing will need to be in it for the long term.
Mr Lambert's comments follow a report by the Fitch Ratings which found that the east Midlands has the highest proportion of mortgages in negative equity, while Scotland has the lowest.
