Next govt 'should cut red tape for landlords'
Posted by Dan Winters
The party which wins at the next election must cut excessive regulation for landlord property insurance holders, an expert has claimed.
A spokesman for the National Approved Letting Scheme, an accreditation scheme for lettings agents, said the UK is short of good-quality housing and no more obstacles should be placed in the way of growth for the industry.
He added: "Without a flourishing private rented sector it could drive house prices further than they would like."
The new government should "regulate with a very soft touch", the representative stated, as it desperately needs private investors to return to return to the rented sector.
His comments follow similar ones from the Association of Residential Letting Agents, which called for landlord property insurance holders to be treated like businesses.
The organisation said the election should not be used to hold back growth in the private rented sector, suggesting that VAT is reduced on home improvements.
