NLA opens Scottish division

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has launched a new division in Scotland.
The new organisation was formally recognised at the Scottish parliament on Wednesday.
"NLA Scotland will have very much its own identity. However, a key strength will be that it is part of a UK-wide trade body that represents landlords across the country at national, regional and European level," said NLA Scotland chairman Jim Parker.
The organisation will contribute to the recent Scottish green paper on both safeguarding tenant interests and ensuring the right conditions are in place to enable the sector to contribute to housing provision, he said.
The private-rented sector accounts for around eight per cent of households in Scotland.
Meanwhile, NLA chief David Salusbury argued on Friday that plans by the British Property Federation (BPF) to introduce branded rental accommodation do not recognise the need for diverse communities.
The BPF maintains that by offering branded rented accommodation, Britons will enjoy the same sense of certainty as when they use the internet, car rental, television and other services.
