Office insurance customers 'must comply with EPBR'
Written by Judith Stevenson
Office insurance customers have been warned that there will be a crackdown on non-compliance with the Energy Performance in Buildings Regulations (EPBR).
The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has stated that it will be running an awareness campaign that will encourage trading standards officers to check that the certificates are held.
Jacqueline Balian, managing director of the organisation, claims that it will equip these agents with the necessary information to check office insurance customers to ensure they have been inspected.
She states: "Advisers find it difficult to persuade some clients to act unless there is clear and imminent danger of legal action resulting in a meaningful fine and damage to reputation."
CIBSE has found that up to 98 per cent of those with business insurance cover had not been inspected by the January 4th deadline earlier this year, with fewer than 1,000 buildings out of 50,000 confirmed as compliant.
Earlier this month, Confused.com highlighted the importance of those with home or office insurance cover taking steps to minimise the potential damage caused by flooding.
