Portugal is 'lucrative for investors'
Investors "can't go wrong" in Portugal's Algarve region, according to a property expert.
Nick Marr, the chief executive of UK-based property portal Homesgofast.com, said property purchasing is still popular in the area and insisted the country has yet to be hit by the credit crunch.
He conceded this could change, but added speculative investors may find opportunities on Portugal's Silver Coast, which may be a "big area in the next few years".
Mr Marr also recommended buying properties near golf courses as this will increase its worth.
"Golf is quite an influential thing in Portugal. If you are a short drive from a championship golf course, or a tennis academy or something like that, you are going to be spot-on," he said.
Raising money for an international mortgage is becoming harder, however, according to another expert.
Rhiannon Davies, director of overseas property website ShelterOffshore.com, said the current financial situation "hindered expats' chances" of getting an international or even a UK mortgage.
