Private buy to let insurance holders 'vital for meeting housing demand'
Posted by Judith Stevenson
Private buy to let insurance policyholders are the key to filling the housing gap, according to a leading organisation.
The British Property Federation (BPF) said that there will not be enough homes to meet demand from those who do not qualify for social hosing.
"With the FSA's [Financial Services Authority's] decision on whether to regulate buy to let mortgages due within a week, extra pressure will be expressed today by the BPF against the will of many lenders keen to avoid regulator interference," the organisation added.
Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the BPF, said that political support for the private rented sector has remained worryingly muted.
He added that there was tremendous goodwill among buy to let insurance policyholders to move the sector forward over the next year and called for the government to support buy to let insurance policyholders.
Tom Entwistle, editor at LandlordZONE, recently said that the strength of the residential lettings market at the moment is encouraging buy to let owners to invest in new properties.
