Property insurance advice: Conduct checks on prospective lodgers
Written by Dan Winters
Those with property insurance should ensure they conduct checks on any prospective roommate before taking on a lodger, an expert advises.
Jonathan Moore, UK country manager at Easyroommate.co.uk, claims that there has been a large increase in the number of people looking at this option.
He warns that this can cause problems with property insurance if the necessary checks are not made.
"You need to do all the relevant referencing checks before you take someone on board and you should also do criminal record checks before you take someone into your own home," he states.
Mr Moore says it is crucial that householders check their property insurance to ensure this will allow them to take on a lodger.
Earlier this month, Landlord Mortgages director Lee Grandin claimed that letting was experiencing a revival in the current market.
He says that those with landlord buildings insurance are catalysts for growth in the economy and have a crucial role to play in the upswing.
