Property insurance: Hips must be bought from 'reputable firm'
Written by Judith Stevenson
Homeowners and landlords should make sure that they purchase a home information pack (Hip) from a reputable provider, an expert has warned those with property insurance.
Lesley Sorridimi, a spokesperson for HIPHIPhooray.com, suggested that people shop around for a Hip vendor, but reminded property insurance holders to ensure that they purchase a document that is up to standard.
It is fine for people to buy cheaper Hips as long as they are confident that the provider is "fully compliant", she insisted.
"They should also be aware that once they purchase a Hip, they own it and not the estate agent," Ms Sorridimi added.
She also reminded property insurance holders that they do not have to get the document from an estate agent, but can opt for a different provider if they wish.
A recent report by Which? suggested that buying Hips from an estate agent can cost over 50 per cent more than those purchasing directly from a specialist.
