Property owners advised that dining rooms are on the way out
Property owners and landlords looking to make their houses more attractive to potential tenants may want to consider more open plan designs, with a new report suggesting the demise of the dining room.
Carried out by Lloyds TSB, the survey shows that over a fifth of homeowners have already taken a sledgehammer to their walls over the last ten years, with a similar number planning to do the same.
The study also found that several 'new' rooms are on the rise among homeowners, including the utility room, the en-suite, a study, a wet room and the games room or den.
Simon Hamilton, international director at the British Institute of Interior Design, said: "Property particulars are starting to look very different.
"Houses, especially older properties, were designed with people's lives in mind, with set rooms for set activities, but as times change so does what we want from our homes."
Some owners may be worried about carrying out improvements because of the fear of eating into savings made by comparing property insurance quotes.
