Property owners alerted over subsidence dangers
Property owners are being urged to ensure they have adequate buildings insurance protection.
According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba), increasingly dry summers occurring in the UK means that subsiding properties are a greater threat than ever.
The problem has been heightened this year by one of the hottest summers on record being followed by one of the driest winters, a trend Biba suggests is likely to heighten the effects of subsidence.
Graeme Trudgill, technical services manager at Biba, urged property owners to "arrange the proper cover before [they] suffer".
Suggesting that subsidence and heave could be a "personal and financial nightmare" for property owners, Mr Trudgill also said property owners needed to have "enough insurance to cover such an eventuality".
