Property owners called to take flood prevention measures
Property owners are being urged to carry out a number of measures to protect their homes against flooding.
According to Paul Redington, property claims manager at insurer Norwich Union, people living in flood-prone areas can do "simple" things such as purchasing air brick covers and flood skirts, barriers placed by front doors if flooding appears imminent.
Mr Redington also said that those people who had experienced flooding in their property could undertake measures to improve electrical sockets and circuitry.
"You could move those up to skirting board or dado rail level so if the house floods again it is less likely that the whole electrical system is going to be ruined," he added.
Other recommended measures included putting down a stone flooring rather than carpets, as well as using a more flood-resistant plaster known as lime light.
