Property owners urged not to use 'rogue tradesmen'
Landlords and property owners have been advised to avoid the temptation of saving money by using rogue traders, especially when it comes to gas fittings.
The advice comes from Jeff Learman, director of communications at Gas Safe Register, who believes that in austere times such as these, many will be tempted by the opportunity to save money by using unqualified engineers.
This should be avoided not only because the engineers are working illegally but also because of the potential for serious illness or a fatality as a result of unqualified work.
Mr Learman said: "There's somebody in the pub, club or corner shop who says 'I know [someone] who can do a job for you,' they are the people who, unfortunately, might very well be doing work they're unqualified for."
Many buy to let insurance quotes require an adequate fitting-out of gas appliances in order to qualify for cover.
