Property owners urged to have 'adequate cover'
Recent inclement weather has highlighted the need for adequate buildings and home insurance, according to a new report.
Sainsbury's Bank claimed that its research revealed five per cent of homeowners do not have buildings insurance, while a further ten per cent of adults do not have contents cover.
Neil Laird, home insurance manager at the firm, said: "Bad weather is increasingly the culprit when it comes to damage to homes and really highlights the importance of having adequate cover in place."
For people whose property has been damaged by recent storms, the firm suggested that they contact their insurer and submit their claim "as soon as possible".
The Royal Institutions of Chartered Surveyors' Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) recently launched a new guide to assist property owners in calculating the cost of damage caused by storms.
Andre Thompson, international development director of the BCIS, said that accurate estimates can help "put your mind at ease".
