Property owners urged to take flood precautions
As part of Flood Awareness Week, property owners are being urged to ensure they are well prepared, especially in flood-prone locations.
Taking place between October 9th and 15th, the Flood Awareness Week coincides with the highest tides which have been predicted in the last 20 years.
Prudential Insurance has urged homeowners to take a number of precautions to offset the potential damage caused by a flood.
This includes listening out for flood warnings, preparing an emergency pack, investing in sand bags and moving valuable items upstairs and out of danger.
Phil Southgate, media relations manager at Prudential Home Insurance, said that the recent flood warnings should encourage people to take the necessary precautions.
"However it is surprising how many people are caught out by poor preparation. Recent debates on climate change and the fact that weather patterns seem to be becoming more dramatic should highlight how vulnerable we all are to the weather," he added.
