Property owners warned over flood risk
Advice from the Environment Agency revealing that higher than normal tides are expected this week will assist property owners in high risk areas on how to minimise the danger of flooding.
Taking place between October 7th and 10th, the tides are expected to be around four centimetres higher than normal for this time of the year.
Although not enough to cause a threat on their own, if these tides are combined with stormy weather or heavy rain, the greater chance of flooding could affect those without residential property insurance.
Direct Line insurance is urging property owners to take various precautions to minimise the risk of damage to their property.
These include storing documents in a dry, accessible place as well as ensuring that properties are suitably maintained.
According to the group, property owners should also be prepared to switch off electricity should flood water impinge.
