Protect your garden investment
Britons spend £4 billion a year on garden ornaments and features, with experts now advising that people should think about taking out insurance to cover this.
The Home Office has estimated that there are over 18,000 cases of theft from gardens each year in the UK and insuring these vulnerable items is recommended.
Brits are being warned that not all sheds, greenhouses and outbuildings are included in household insurance policies particularly if they have been built recently.
However these, along with power tools are often lucrative targets for thieves and should be remembered when thinking of taking out buildings insurance.
"People are spending more time and money in their gardens than ever before, so it is important that they check their insurance policy offers the right level of cover for their gardens and the buildings in them," explained Simon Stanney, head of product at RIAS.
Tips from experts in order to protect property include making sure that outbuildings are protected and ensuring whether lawn mowers and power tools need to be listed.
Other ways of protecting property include checking whether gates and fences are included in the buildings policy, as this cover does not usually come as standard.
