Retail insurance: Over half of small firms 'do not have website'
Written by Judith Stevenson
Small businesses are potentially missing out on £52,000 turnover every year because they do not have a website, retail insurance policyholders may be interested to learn.
Research by website creation package Mr Site and PayPal shows that over half of small firms do not have an online presence.
The survey also found that those companies that were represented on the internet had seen their overall turnover increase by 37 per cent on average.
According to the research, 61 per cent of small businesses that sell goods do not have a website, while 46 per cent of those that provide services are yet to venture online.
"Online sales are bucking the high-street street trend and businesses should establish their online presence before they are left behind," said Cameron McLean, general manager for UK merchant services at PayPal, which may require them to also invest in cyber insurance.
Meanwhile, Siim Vips, chief executive at Modera, has suggested that value-added content is important for encouraging repeat visits to websites and therefore driving sales.
