Secure construction sites to avoid contractors insurance claim
Written by Dan Winters
Construction firms in the north-west are being warned to make sure their sites are secured so that children do not get injured playing on them, potentially forcing them to make a contractors insurance claim.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is reminding businesses in the region that dozens of kids are injured on construction sites every year as they often look like "giant adventure playgrounds" to young people.
Mike Cross, the HSE's head of operations for construction in the north-west, said the organisation was concerned that the danger may be heightened this year as more sites are being mothballed due to the recession.
"We're asking companies to ensure sites are properly secured to make it harder for members of the public to get onto them," he commented, highlighting simple measures which could prevent the need for a contractors insurance claim.
Last week, the Forum of Private Business urged firms to prepare for a potential swine flu pandemic, warning that it could cost small companies millions of pounds.
