Small town surprises in top ten commercial property sites
Falkirk, Darlington and Newport are unexpected entries in the top ten locations for commercial property, according to new research.
While London, Manchester and the Home Counties remain popular, the study by Officebroker.com ranked locations by number of offices let, percentage revenue achieved and the percentage number of total deals and found that some small towns like these are also seeing high demand for serviced office space.
To explain the success of Darlington, Daniel Baldwin, north-east sales manager for Officebroker, said that Darlington's position on the A1 corridor and the natural beauty of the surrounding area had boosted its appeal.
And Falkirk's virtues were extolled by Willie Ferguson, the owner of the town's Haypark Business Centre, who said: "Falkirk is in the centre of Scotland and a major thoroughfare between its main cities - Glasgow and Edinburgh.
"There seems to be a shortage of quality smaller, leased office accommodation in this area so people looking for space from 150 to 1,000 square feet tend to come to us or other serviced office providers in the area."
Other towns in the top ten were Aberdeen, Derby and Stockport, while Reading came top in percentage of total revenue produced by office lets helped by its desirable location in the M4 'silicon corridor'.
