Smart meters and heat pumps 'benefit households'
An expert has highlighted energy-saving measures homeowners can implement in order to manage and reduce energy consumption.
The National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) has said more households are recognising the benefits of introducing a smart meter to the home, in that it can allow an exact measurement of how much energy is being used up.
In turn it will give property holders the information they need to be able to reduce consumption if applicable.
Andrew Leech, spokesperson for the NHIC, also said heat pumps, using air or ground source, "are one of the most sensible ways of introducing cost effective renewable energy into existing homes", basing his comment on the government's Renewables Advisory Board.
The Energy Savings Trust highlights the effects of lighting methods in using up electricity.
It says if every household installed one energy-saving light bulb instead of its traditional counterpart, the resulting amount of electricity saved would power the Blackpool Illuminations for almost 900 years.
