Staycationers 'must check contents insurance cover'
Written by Jonathan Walker
Brits deciding to take a holiday in the UK this year are being warned to check that their contents insurance covers any possessions they take away with them.
Charity Age Concern advises that most contents insurance policies only offer cover for items taken out of the home as an optional extras and some will only protect personal possessions in certain circumstances.
"Going on holiday should be a relaxing experience," said Malcolm Tarling, media relations officer at the Association of British Insurers.
"Making sure your home is secure while you are away, and checking your insurance cover, will ensure that you remember your holiday for all the right reasons," he added.
VisitBritain is forecasting a 20 per cent rise in the number of people taking 'staycations' in the UK, while VisitScotland is expecting a 25 per cent increase in holidays taken north of the border.
Meanwhile, Dennis Klett, co-founder and director of Domegos.co.uk recently said that more Brits are seizing the opportunity to become holiday landlords as more people choose to take breaks in Britain.
