Storm damage "right across" England and Wales
Insurance claims received as a direct result of last weeks storms are expected to number more than 10,000, one insurer predicted today.
NFU Mutual also predicts the bill will amount to more than £30 million, as people begin to count the cost of the damage done to their homes and businesses.
The vast majority of claims are expected to be for roof damage to homes and also damage caused by fallen trees. Claims manager Richard Pilkington insisted "our prime concern is to help our policyholders quickly when they are in difficulties".
The south-west of England was the worst hit area, although there were reports of damage right across England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland appear to have escaped largely unscathed.
The storm was the worst one recorded in Britain for 17 years and left 13 dead. Wind speeds were reported to be over 100mph in some areas.
