Those with commercial property insurance urged to contact their insurers after England riots
Property owners affected by the destruction causing in the recent riots in England who have commercial property insurance for their business have been encouraged to contact their insurers.
The Association for British Insurers (ABI) has written to business groups to let businesses and property owners know that many commercial property insurance policies will cover them for loss of trade as well as damage caused by fire or looting that took place during the riots
ABI has urged those concerned to call their insurers, many of whom are running 24 hour helplines, to arrange the receipt of cover.
Nick Starling, director of general insurance and health at ABI, said: “We have every sympathy for residents and business owners who have suffered damage to their properties. This is a time of enormous stress for them and their insurers will be on hand to answer any questions that they may have."
Insurers are expecting to face significant losses because of the riots, estimated to be at least tens of millions of pounds.
