Tory planning proposals to affect commercial buildings insurance holders?
Posted by Jonathan Walker
The Conservatives have pledged to change the planning system making it easier for people to change the use of buildings, which could affect those with commercial buildings insurance.
If they get into power at the next general election, the Tories would remove the regional tier of the planning system.
They pledged to remove the need for planning permission to change the use of buildings within a range allowed by the local community.
However, Alex Hawkes, news editor at Construction News, said that questions remain about the proposals and commercial buildings insurance policyholders may well have their own concerns.
"I don't think anyone really knows whether any of those ideas will work or how well they are funded," he commented.
Mr Hawkes suggested that removing structures within the planning system could raise the prospect of a hiatus before other arrangements are brought in to replace the current process of dealing with applications.
