Commercial property insurance customers 'should look to Europe'
05 Aug 2010
Germany, France and Scandinavia are among the best bets for commercial property insurance policyholders' investments, according to one expert, which may interest commercial property insurance policyholders in the UK.
Ed Stansfield, property economist at Capital Economics, suggested that France and the Nordic countries "stand out" in terms of economic prospects and pricing, while Germany is poised to be "one of the best performing" European countries in the coming years.
"A lot of the data would suggest that the [German commercial property price] correction was very modest and, therefore, there is not a lot of potential for an upswing, but, as a solid income-producing investment, I think German property has got some attractions," he said.
Mr Stansfield added that investors should be "wary" about entering the Spanish and Greek markets in the near future due to uncertainty about the countries' economies.
In a recent survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, more than half of real estate professionals surveyed believed that the number of distressed properties coming onto the global commercial property market would continue in the next quarter.
