There was a substantial rise in the number of new build registrations in the UK last year, property insurance customers have been informed.
According to the National House-Building Council, there were 9,163 registrations to build new homes in October 2009, which is the highest level since July 2008.
The figures also revealed that between August and October 2009, there were 24,896 applications to build new houses, which is a rise of 27 per cent compared to the same period last year.
According to the statistics, property insurance customers also saw private sector applications increase by 45 per cent to 16,630 in the three months to the end of October 2009, compared to the same period last year.
The signs of stabilisation follow the recent publication of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply's seasonally-adjusted Markit Construction Purchasing Managers' Index, which suggested that the industry has seen 20 months of continual decline.
