Property insurance not the only consideration for flooding
03 Feb 2012
Landlords and property owners with buildings and houses in inner city areas have been warned that such properties are now more at risk from flooding.
Frank Kelly, chief executive officer at UK Flood Barriers, has suggested that due to problems with flash floods and difficulties with urban drainage systems, inner city properties can now be at greater risk.
While the cost may be seen as another expense on top of existing property insurance measures, Mr Kelly claims that the protection could pay for itself after just one flood event.
Mr Kelly said: "River and coastal flooding is very easy to turn around, but most of the problems now are to do with flash flooding, because heavy rain falls into overwhelmed drainage systems. Properties in inner cities now are being flooded."
A recent blog post by the Guardian's Damian Carrington claimed the government has decreased its overall spending on flood defences over the last few years.
